2023

This was the year we took green beans to the next level. After handpicking beans and understanding there was no way to make it pay with livable labor costs, Evan ordered a harvester from Italy and what previously took a small crew half a day to do would be done in 30 minutes.

By this time, we really homed in on a lettuce mix and began pumping out soil blocks as fast as possible. Soil blocks are a compacted soil brick that contains the plant while air pruning and allow you to get 105 plants per tray.

We had one short term worker the previous season, but Matthew (as seen below) joined us full-time and began helping us focus on seeding, harvest, wash, pack, and store duties.

The boar shown below is Arnold, he was the daddy to every pig that was born on the farm at this time. Breeding stock came with responsibilities like castrating, weaning, and always managing multiple pens of hogs.
