We’ve experienced a variety of extreme weather conditions this year, from a winter storm and single digit temperatures in January to a full-scale drought as I write this in late August. June was unusually wet and then the rain quit and we have been pumping water and planting as much under shade as we can. As of today, we have transplanted our first crop of brassicas outside which will require a lot of water in this time of 100+ degree days but it’s time to have that stuff going to make a good fall crop.

Our tunnels held up through the snow although we had a bit of trouble trying to get into them for a few days. The frost cloth inside the tunnel left us with a small amount of burn on a few plants but overall, no crop loss. The brussels sprouts survived, but the damage left a layer of rot inside the sprouts and we didn’t sell any.
